Clinical Features Distinguishing Diabetic Retinopathy Severity Using Artificial Intelligence

چکیده
Background and Hypothesis:1 in 29 American diabetics suffer from diabetic retinopathy (DR), the weakening of blood vessels retina. DR goes undetected nearly 50% diabetics, allowing to steal vision many Americans. We hypothesize that increasing rate ease diagnosing by introducing artificial intelligence-based methods primary medical clinics will increase long-term preservation ocular health patients.
Project Methods:This retrospective cohort study was conducted under approval Institutional Review Board Indiana University School Medicine. Images were deidentified no consent taken due nature this study. categorized 676 patient files based upon HbA1c, severity non-proliferative (NPDR), proliferative (PDR). Retinal images annotated identify common features DR: microaneurysms, hemorrhages, cotton wool spots, exudates, neovascularization. The VGG Image Annotator application used for annotations allowed us save structure coordinates into a separate database future training intelligence system.
Results:228 (33.7%) patients diagnosed with diabetes, 143 (62.7%) those DR. Two-sample t tests found significant differences between HbA1c values all compared without (p<0.007) severities versus (p<0.002). 283 eyes form study: 37 mild NPDR, 42 moderate 56 severe 148 PDR eyes.
Potential Impact:With dataset experiment, we aim train an system diagnose through retinal imaging. goal is be conveniently detection preserve millions

PURPOSE To correlate retinal vascular features with severity and systemic indicators of diabetic retinopathy (DR) using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). METHODS A total of 209 eyes of 122 type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with DR and 60 eyes of 31 normal Indian subjects underwent OCTA imaging. The diabetic retinopathy patients were graded as having either nonproliferative diab...

Diabetic retinopathy continues to be an important cause of adult blindness among Americans and Brazilians. There are determinant environmental factors in the development of diabetic retinopathy although increasing evidence suggests a genetic component in diabetic retinopathy. The advances made during the last two decades with the purpose of improving the understanding of the mechanisms involved...

Manual examination of retina images for the diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy is a time consuming and error prone process, requiring identification of inconspicuous anomalies like micro-aneurysms and exudates. In this work, we explore machine learning techniques for automatic identification and severity classification of diabetic retinopathy from retina images. The presented approach involves i...

Need for International Clinical Disease Severity Scale: There is a need for a unified, international disease severity scale for diabetic retinopathy (DR) and diabetic macular edema (DME) in both the U.S. and all parts of the world. Although the Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study (ETDRS) staging system is recognized as the gold standard for grading in clinical trials, in everyday clinica...
